Budget Apartment Decor: 15 Under-$50 Finds That Look Expensive

When I moved into my first apartment, I had more wall space than money, and absolutely no clue how to make a space feel “me” without overspending.

So I got scrappy.

I thrifted. I DIYed. I stalked clearance aisles and learned how to style cheap things so they looked like I paid way more than I did.

Over time, I figured out that you don’t need a big budget to have a cozy, curated home. You just need a little intention — and a sharp eye for details.

That’s why I’m writing this list. If you’re working with limited cash but still want your apartment to feel put together and elevated, these under-$50 finds are game-changers.

They’re all pieces I’ve either used, recommended to friends, or would happily grab for my own place. Every item here looks expensive, but won’t wreck your wallet.

1. Linen-Look Throw Pillows

Swap out the basic couch cushions with covers that have texture and weight.

Neutral linen-look fabric always reads high-end, especially in warm tones like sand, olive, or terracotta. You can find stylish ones for $20 or less on Amazon or H&M Home — and no one will guess the price.

2. Oversized Framed Prints

Skip the cheap wall decals. Go for one oversized print in a minimal frame.

Choose moody landscapes, abstract black-and-white art, or vintage posters. IKEA and Etsy are full of downloadable options — pair them with a $10 frame and boom, instant upgrade.

3. Ribbed Glassware

Ribbed or fluted glasses feel boutique-y, even when they’re from Target.

They add texture and elegance to open shelves or bar carts, and they photograph beautifully, too. I grabbed a set of four for under $25, and they’ve held up surprisingly well.

4. Ceramic Catchall Trays

A small tray on your coffee table or nightstand instantly makes the space feel styled.

Look for matte ceramic or stone-finish trays in muted colors. They’re perfect for holding keys, candles, or jewelry — and they’re usually under $15.

5. Pleated Lampshades

Swapping a basic shade for a pleated one can completely change the vibe of a lamp.

Go for soft fabric shades in beige, sage, or blush tones. They give off that cozy, Euro-apartment feel and are super easy to find online.

6. Real-Look Faux Plants

A good fake plant adds warmth without the pressure of keeping it alive.

Snake plants, pothos, and olive trees are great picks. Stick it in a nice pot (more on that below) and no one will know it’s not the real deal.

7. Minimalist Wall Hooks

Wall hooks that double as decor? Yes, please.

Go for wooden pegs or brushed brass hooks. Use them in your entry, bathroom, or kitchen. They’re affordable, useful, and surprisingly chic.

8. Textured Throw Blanket

One quality throw can tie the whole room together.

Choose woven textures — think waffle knit or chunky boucle — in soft, neutral colors. Drape it casually over a chair or bed, and it’ll instantly elevate the space.

9. Stylish Storage Baskets

Function meets form with a good storage basket.

Rope baskets or jute bins look much more expensive than plastic ones and help keep your space tidy. Use them for blankets, magazines, or random clutter.

10. Glass Soap Dispensers

Replace your drugstore soap bottles with amber or clear glass dispensers.

It’s a tiny detail, but it makes your bathroom or kitchen sink feel 10x more polished. You can grab a two-pack on Amazon for under $15.

11. Marble-Look Coasters

They don’t need to be real marble — just look the part.

White or black faux marble coasters with gold accents add a touch of glam and protect your surfaces. Plus, they make you look like someone who has their life together.

12. Candle Holders in Mixed Heights

Candles are cozy. But candles in stylish holders? Designer-level cozy.

Look for a set in wood, iron, or stone finishes. Place them on your dining table or shelves for dimension and charm.

13. Statement Doormat

A chic doormat sets the tone before anyone even steps inside.

Pick one with a clean design — maybe a simple “hello” or a graphic pattern. It makes the whole entrance feel more inviting.

14. Wall-Mounted Floating Shelves

Even one floating shelf can make a blank wall feel intentional.

Add a few books, a framed print, or a little plant. Done right, it looks custom — but you can find a set under $30 at most big-box stores.

15. Ceramic Plant Pots

Don’t leave your faux (or real) plants in plastic grow pots.

Upgrade to a textured or matte ceramic planter. The finish matters — go for speckled, ribbed, or raw clay styles. You’ll be shocked how much more “designed” your space looks.
